Indonesia Customer Purchases CMC 340/12000 High Mast & Mono Pole Shut Welding Machine

A pole manufacturing company in Indonesia selected our CMC 340/12000 light pole shut-welding machine to produce high mast poles and mono poles for street lighting and telecom projects. After comparing several Chinese and local suppliers, the client chose this model because it can close-weld both circular and polygonal tapered poles up to 12 meters in a single automatic pass, with the welding quality and repeatability their tender projects demand.

Client Background

The buyer operates a pole fabrication workshop supplying galvanized street light poles, high mast poles and telecom mono poles to infrastructure contractors across Indonesia. Their existing manual welding process depended heavily on skilled welders, and the long longitudinal seam on tapered poles was the slowest and most quality-sensitive step in the whole production line.

The Challenge
  • Longitudinal seam welding of 12 m tapered poles was slow and labour intensive
  • Inconsistent penetration and weld appearance caused rework and galvanizing rejects
  • Manual closing of the pole gap before welding required two operators
  • Need to handle both circular and polygonal poles on the same machine
  • Growing order volume required higher output without adding welders
The Solution: Model 340/12000

The CMC 340/12000 is an automatic shut-welding line designed specifically for one-piece polygonal and circular tapered light poles. A dolly driven by an adjustable-speed motor pulls the pole from the small end to the big end, while a hydraulic cylinder, acting through a mechanical chain and worm wheel, pushes the clamping wheels to close the pole gap and weld at the same time. The result is a straight, fully penetrated seam produced in one continuous automatic pass.

Standard machine composition delivered to the client:

  1. Long working table with rack for the pull dolly
  2. Dolly for pulling the pole
  3. Hydraulic clamping and welding unit, including 3 sets of clamping wheels for polygonal and circular poles
  4. Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) and Gas-shielded (CO2) welding system with wire feeding system
  5. Flux recovering system
  6. Back support unit

Optional Upgrades Selected
  • Lincoln welding machine (USA brand): chosen for the submerged arc welding process to secure stable arc characteristics and better bead appearance.
  • Fast motorized return back for dolly: the standard dolly returns at working speed, which is slow; on the standard machine operators release the clutch and push the dolly back by hand. This option lets the operator return the dolly to the welding head at the push of a button, cutting non-productive time and manpower.
  • Both-side additional hydraulic cylinders: extends the working range to 60 – 450 mm diameter at 2.8 – 6 mm thickness, suitable for small-diameter heavy-wall poles and high-tensile steel plates.

Results & Benefits
  • One operator now completes a 12 m seam in a single automatic pass at 1.1 – 2 m/min
  • Hydraulic clamping removed manual gap-closing work and improved seam consistency
  • 630 A SAW plus CO2 capability covers both thick-wall high mast poles and thinner street poles
  • Metal pallet packaging and 50 – 60 day delivery matched the client's project schedule
Conclusion

This Indonesia project shows how a dedicated shut-welding line can replace slow manual seam welding with a repeatable, automated process. With a 60 – 340 mm standard diameter range, 12 m working length, and optional extension to 450 mm, the CMC 340/12000 is a practical investment for pole manufacturers targeting high mast, street lighting and telecom mono pole projects.
